Much Ado About Nothing

At the Emirates lounge, my husband Greg and I were happily eating lunch. Greg suddenly sat bolt upright and started patting his chest like airport security.

“My phone.”

Pause.

“At home.”

Our limo had arrived early.  He’d rushed out.  The phone was still plugged into the charger, having a well-deserved break.

For five frantic minutes, Greg tried logging into everything known to humanity.  No luck.  Every app said the same thing:
“We’ll send a code to your phone.”
His phone was at home, enjoying solitude.

So, Greg took a taxi back, rescued the phone, and returned.  Thanks to no traffic and TSA PreCheck, an hour and a half later, he made it back to the lounge.  Crisis #1: cancelled.

Then…

Fog delayed our flight.  In Dubai, our connection window shrank to 30 minutes.  Memories of past shuttle buses, terminal sprints, and intense laptop inspections flooded my brain.  Emirates even emailed:
“If required, we will rebook your flight.”
That means…”Good luck.”

My mind went into full disaster mode. Missed flight.  Waiting taxi in Chennai.  Rickshaw driver abandoned.  First satsang attended only in spirit.

Every 45 minutes, I tracked the plane.  I prayed the pilot would fly fast…but legally.

He did.

We landed only 30 minutes late.  No laptop inspection.  No chest patting.  Same terminal.  Gate open.  Forty-five minutes to spare.  We walked on, sat down, and exhaled like embodied spiritual teachers.

No Dubai lounge this time.  But the bigger win was this:
Everything my mind predicted did not happen.

I was reminded…

The mind is very creative.  And wildly unreliable.

So, next time chaos shows up, sit back and watch.
Odds are…it’s another story that won’t come true.
